Episode 1

1: How to Stay Motivated on Your Financial Journey

In this first episode, I'm sharing the most powerful exercise I do with all my clients before we ever look at the numbers: finding your financial why. Your financial journey can feel like a mountain, but when you have something that motivates you so deeply that it feels like a punch in the gut, you'll find the motivation to keep going, even when things get hard. This "why" is your secret weapon, helping you confidently make spending choices and create a life aligned with your biggest, wildest dreams.

16

:

Let's dive into today's episode.

17

:

Lindsey: If you've been on your

financial journey for a while, you know

18

:

that sometimes it can feel like you're

attempting to scale Mount Everest.

19

:

There are days when you just want

to throw in the towel and quit.

20

:

Or maybe you're just starting out and the

whole thing feels completely overwhelming.

21

:

Where do you even start?

22

:

Today, I'm sharing with you a simple,

yet powerful exercise that I do with

23

:

all of my clients before we ever

even start to look at any numbers.

24

:

It's all about finding your financial why.

25

:

So let me ask you a question.

26

:

What is your financial why?

27

:

Your why should be something

short but powerful.

28

:

This should resonate with

you so deeply that it almost

29

:

feels like a punch in the gut.

30

:

It's that powerful.

31

:

It's something that you could

write on a post-it note.

32

:

Put somewhere that you'll see

it every single day, and be

33

:

reminded of why you chose to work

on your relationship with money.

34

:

It should be something that will

keep you moving forward when things

35

:

get hard and you feel like quitting

because they will, but the life that's

36

:

possible on the other side of all

that discomfort, totally worth it.

37

:

Close your eyes and think about

some of these questions to help

38

:

you discover your financial why.

39

:

Why do you want to be in a

better place financially?

40

:

Why did you decide now was

the time to start working on

41

:

your relationship with money?

42

:

What makes you excited to work

towards a better financial future?

43

:

What would a better financial

future mean for you, your kids,

44

:

or maybe even your grandkids?

45

:

Maybe it's the freedom

from financial stress.

46

:

Not having to lay awake at night

constantly worrying about money,

47

:

or maybe it's the ability to save

your goals so you can finally own a

48

:

home or take that dream vacation or

just put your kids through college.

49

:

Or perhaps it's the peace of mind

that comes from being in control

50

:

of your money and knowing you have

enough to cover all of your expenses.

51

:

As you're looking for your

financial why, don't be afraid

52

:

to dig a little bit deeper here.

53

:

Your why has to be stronger than your

desire to stay in your comfort zone,

54

:

because while your comfort zone is safe.

55

:

Nothing changes there.

56

:

This money journey is all about empowering

yourself to take control of your finances

57

:

so that you can get to a better place.

58

:

I encourage you to take some time

to journal and explore your why.

59

:

Then go ahead and let

it sit for a day or two.

60

:

Then come back to what you wrote.

61

:

Is there a theme?

62

:

Does anything stand out?

63

:

Drill down and ask yourself

why a few more times.

64

:

Why is it important that you pay off debt?

65

:

Why is it important that you're able to

help your kids pay for college Again?

66

:

Keep going until you find that

concise, powerful statement

67

:

that truly resonates with you.

68

:

Once you have it, write it on a

sticky note and put it somewhere where

69

:

you will see it every single day.

70

:

Maybe that's your computer or on

the bathroom mirror so you see

71

:

it first thing every morning.

72

:

You could also add it as a reminder

that pops up on your phone throughout

73

:

the day, or go ahead and take a

photo of that Post-it note and make

74

:

it the background on your phone.

75

:

All of these little reminders

are the secret weapon that will

76

:

propel you to keep moving forward

when you feel like quitting.

77

:

This why is the foundation for

everything you do with your money.

78

:

It's what allows you to confidently

tell your money where to go

79

:

without the guilt or stress.

80

:

It's what helps you prioritize what's

worth spending on and what's not.

81

:

Knowing your why gives you permission to

82

:

say no to things that don't

align with what will help move

83

:

you closer towards your goals.

84

:

So go find it, write it down, and

let it be the anchor that keeps you

85

:

focused on your biggest, wildest dreams.

86

:

Because remember these

biggest, wildest dreams.

87

:

Are within reach.

88

:

Let's go make some money moves

so that you too can start to

89

:

experience financial freedom.

90

:

That's all for this episode

of the Money Clarity Podcast.

91

:

My hope is that today's conversation

gave you a little bit of clarity and

92

:

confidence to take the next right step.
